1. What is SGPA?

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is the average grade point a student earns in a single semester. It represents your performance in all the subjects you took during that semester.

2. How is SGPA calculated?

SGPA is calculated using a weighted formula based on:

  • Credit of each subject
  • Grade points earned in each subject

The formula is:

SGPA = (Sum of (Grade Points × Credits)) ÷ (Total Credits)

3. Example of SGPA Calculation

Suppose you have 5 subjects:

  • Subject 1 → Grade A (9) x 4 credits
  • Subject 2 → Grade B (8) x 3 credits
  • Subject 3 → Grade A+ (10) x 3 credits
  • Subject 4 → Grade C (7) x 2 credits
  • Subject 5 → Grade B (8) x 3 credits

Total = (9x4 + 8x3 + 10x3 + 7x2 + 8x3) ÷ (4+3+3+2+3)
SGPA = 8.43

4. SGPA vs CGPA

Many students confuse SGPA with CGPA.

SGPA

Calculated for one semester.

CGPA

Calculated for all semesters combined.

5. How to Convert SGPA to Percentage?

Different universities use different formulas. Common one:

Percentage = (SGPA - 0.75) x 10
